The Bucknell Education Department has three major civic engagement initiatives:
Bucknell is partnering with the Greater Susquehanna Valley United Way and Susquehanna University to provide one-on-one remote tutoring services to families in the surrounding areas. You do not need to be an education major to help with this! We work with children from kindergarten through high school. Tutors commit to working with a specific child for the whole semester (or year) for about two hours per week. The schedule is something the tutor and family decides together. All of the tutoring sessions are remote. There is a great need for support with math (especially calculus) and Spanish. If you are interested in tutoring, please fill out this link form: https://forms.gle/BGTCuZmi3Ghp7jqM9 hours count towards FWS. Training and on-going support are available. For more information, please contact Heather Cantagallo hc020@bucknell.edu.
BUild Together is an afterschool program that supports students at the Miller Center. The program runs from 3:30 – 6:00 Monday through Friday and serves students in grade kindergarten through high school. We are always looking for more volunteers and BUild Together Coordinators hours count towards FWS. For more information, please contact Heather Cantagallo hc020@bucknell.edu.
The Listening Post is a near-peer program in which college students provide social emotional support to area middle school students. Middle school students self-select this opportunity for social conversation. This is a great opportunity for education and psychology majors and these hours count towards FWS. For more information, please contact Heather Cantagallo hc020@bucknell.edu.
